MIC rotation device
The Microphone Rotation Device is designed to remotely adjust the orientation angle of a directional microphone suspended from a cable. It can also be used to eliminate deviations caused by cable winding due to the cable's structural features. The device allows the orientation angle to be precisely corrected to compensate for the natural twisting, stretching and sagging of the cable during operation.
This device is ideal for use in theaters, concert halls, studios and broadcasts. It provides smooth microphone orientation adjustment during performances or stage transitions, which is sometimes required in dynamic arrangements of performers, orchestras or choirs.
Operation
  • The microphone rotates around the axis of the cable on which it is suspended.
  • The rotation is controlled by software from a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  • The device controller ensures smooth and precise rotation, eliminating inertial forces acting on the microphone.

Main components
  • Rotation mechanism: With micro-step motor for precise and smooth movement.
  • Cable clamping mechanism: Holds the cable securely during rotation.
  • Locking system: Prevents the cable from being raised or lowered while clamped.

Specifications
  • Power supply: 12V DC, 0.5A.
  • Maximum rotation angle: ~360°.
  • Rotation speed: half-turn (180°) in 90 seconds.
  • Protection: IP20.

Combined lifting and rotation system
One possible application for a microphone rotation device is integration with a microphone winch. In this configuration, it is mounted under the winch and the microphone cable is passed through the rotation mechanism.

The winch is equipped with integrated software that includes the rotation control in its interface. Thus, the microphone rotation device becomes a peripheral component by means of which the cable rotation is performed.

Recommended Cable Length
Distance to the winch:
  • For a 3 mm diameter cable: at least 30 cm.
  • For a 6 mm diameter cable: at least 50 cm.
Distance to the microphone: Unlimited.

Microphone Positioning
Control Positioning is usually monitored either by visual checks or by analyzing the audio signal. Full automation is tricky because microphones don’t give angular feedback. A hanging cable, especially if it's long, can twist and untwist naturally. This can cause the angle to vary by several degrees due to factors such as changes in temperature or humidity, as well as stress when winding and unwinding the cable.

Standalone Installation
This device isn’t just for microphones—it can also be used with other equipment like video cameras or sensors that need precise positioning on a horizontal plane. When used as a standalone system, it needs separate control units to manage power and signal input/output.
